  • About

At three years old, singer-songwriter Peter Kaszas saw an appearance by drummer and jazz legend Buddy Rich on, of all places, the Muppet Show. It made a major impact on him. By age six he was studying classical percussion, including marimba and vibes, at a music school, and at age 11 he received his first drum set. Kaszas has played drums for a host of bands in his native Hungary over the past 24 years, including a Budapest appearance with vibe-playing jazz veteran Mike Mainieri. Since 2009 Kaszas has became the member of the Grammy Award winner guitarist Al Di Meola's group and touring all around the world and sharing the stage with world-known musicians such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba or Maraca. Kaszas has performed on many recordings in the past fifteen years. Significant examples of his work include Al Di Meola’s Latin Grammy Award-nominee album called The Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody where he played alongside Peter Erskine, Charlie Haden, Mino Cinelu, Gumbi Ortiz, Fausto Beccalossi, Barry Miles and Victor Miranda. Still, it is his singing and songwriting (which he took up at age ten) that is really catching the attention of both audiences and industry pros. With his musician father, Kaszas grew up listening to an ample mix of singer-songwriters, including Sting, Michael Bolton, Richard Marx, Babyface and, of course, Phil Collins, to whom he has often been compared. Debuting his rhythmic chops at an international drum show at age 15, the young Kaszas soon after received a Golden DrumStick Award. In 2005, he was also awarded first prize in a Yamaha Songwriting Contest in Tokyo. Penning pop songs with different collaborators, Kaszas owns a voice and style that is soulful, sensitive, compassionate and genuine. His compositions have the makings of modern standards, tapping into universal themes of hope, loneliness, romance and impulse. He attributes some of his musical depth to bouts with childhood asthma that left him near death several times. Conquering that has given him both perspective and drive beyond his years. Three recent compositions, On the Other Side, Run To You, and Hear my Word, offer effortless introspection and honesty in both lyrics and music. Kaszas’ spirituality and interest in Tibetan Buddhism are even subtly reflected in the purity and truthfulness of his music. The music professionals Kaszas has worked with around the world have commended his talent and vision: "Peter Kaszas, Jr. is an outstanding musician and is already the recipient of several domestic and international music awards. He has already made remarkable contributions to the Hungarian music scene, including playing drums on several hundred albums and performing at many live events. The consummate professional, it is always a pleasure to work with him. It’s exciting that Peter’s caught the attention of the international music community and we at Warner Music Hungary are looking forward to working with him again in the very near future." (Csaba Nasz Managing Director, Warner Music Hungary) “Peter Kaszas is a unique talent on the musical scene in Hungary and in Europe. His songs are filled energy and he is a quality composer, musician and drummer. When he plays drums, it is like he is painting a landscape.” (Gabor Garami --Radio DJ, Los Angeles)
